Rights and Responsibilities
Significance: Since Roe v. Wade made abortion legal, people are basically using it as a birth control; a killer. It is significant to me because it is now a free range right to abort your pregnancy. It has many ways of affecting a family and a babies rights.
Summary of Supreme Court Case: Roe wanted to terminate her pregnancy, but in Texas they only allow abortion if it were to save a woman’s life. Roe fought for the right so women could get an abortion whenever they needed it.
Controversy and Major Issues: The issue is that abortion can be sought out for many reasons, beyond the normal/ typical abortion. One side, Roe is towards getting an abortion for an open reason v. Wade being towards being against getting an abortion at a certain period of time.
How did this hinder the rights of Americans?
Women have been fighting and continue to fight for basic rights for ages. The Roe v. Wade (1973) case improved American women's rights. It told women that abortion was finally legal. Women have a right to choose whether they want to have an abortion or not, but only in the first two trimesters. If this law was not set in place women would have back alley abortions, meaning they would do it themselves. A law had to be set in place for the black market abortions to stop.
If a women is not in the right emotional, mental, or physical shape to have a baby it is their right to have it or not. Jane Roe of Texas, was the first to challenge her state law on abortion.
